Titans Add Depth at Quarterback Position: Outlook on the Depth Chart
It is no secret that the Titans have struggled to retain a healthy quarterback who can participate in all 16 games. In this case, one of the most promising quarterbacks, Marcus Mariota has received his fair share of criticism in the NFL. It goes without saying that the quarterback downtime has greatly affected the productivity of the team; and more so the offensive line. To mitigate the problem, the Titans have always had a less-expensive backup who is supposed to shield the team when need be. However, this backup plan has not always yielded fruit. You will remember that Tennessee had to concede a game in Miami in the past year.
This is because the filler quarterback Matt Cassel could not deliver when the team needed a win most. The bitter taste of loss once again engulfed the Titans and they had to take it in. It was clear that stronger players were needed to back up Mariota. Therefore, the team signed some promising talent this off-season through the draft and through free agency. Hopefully, this will increase Tennessee titans odds to win. The Titans now have three able quaterbacks as they go into camp. With this addition, the Titans quarterback depth should soon start to shine. The three are expected to feature in the 53-man roster.
To know more about these players, it is critical to dissect the depth chart at the Titans camp. For every position, there is competition at the starting position. This is according to the Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. All eyes are still on Mariota and if he will be in a position to get back in shape under the offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, Tennessee may have a better season to bag the divisional title. If Mariota is not able to get back on track, the AFC South teams will certainly have a field day.
Blaine Gabbert is a potent backup who was with the Cardinals in the last season. The Titans are really pegging on this player as long as he does not start for a lengthy period of time. It is probable that the Titans would have defeated Miami in the last season if Gabbert was manning the offense as backup quarterback. To this end, this backup player has all the signs of filling in and delivering the much needed success for Tennessee. With impressive credentials on his back, this quarterback will now have to showcase his stuff in a manner that elevates the team even further.
Luke Falk is a draft pick out of Washington State. There was a lot of speculation over whether the Titans would spend a draft pick on the quarterback position. They drafted Falk at No. 199 of the sixth round of the NFL draft. Falk will have to get used to the NFL defense even as he brings his extensive college footaball prowess to the fore. This rookie has a lot going for him and it goes without saying that a lot more will be expected by the team going forward. All in all, this new depth at quarterback is a welcome move for the Titans.
