Offseason Grades of AFC South: An Overview
There is no doubt in the fact that AFC South has provided unlimited craziness in this off season. It has made an exception in the division of NFL as the coach was fired in spite of leading the team to playoffs. The reason why Mike Mularkey was fired is still not known.
The AFC South happens to be one of those divisions in NFL which feels that there are chances of any of the four teams to win it. In the last four years, there were different winners. The team which has lost the division during the vision went to the playoffs in the previous season. The AFC South is recognized to be the one and only division in AFC which has earned a high popularity by sending all the four-team to the playoffs where each team was sent in every season. In this fierce competition, the simple off season may make a significant difference as it will be helpful in winning the division by putting one team on the top. The team may help in understanding which team has the odds to win AFC South.
Brian Gaine, the General Manager signed Tyran Mathieu which became a huge splash. He also added Aaron Colin, the former Jaguars corner. The team was also known to re-sign Johnathan Joseph. Hence, some significant improvements are expected in this year. The issue of the team in the last season was not the size of the team. It is owing to the offensive line which led to the surrender of 54 sacks.
Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts gave the worst performance in the offseason of 2018. One of the reasons for this was that though Josh McDaniels agreed to become the coach of the team verbally, he changed his mind later on and thus there was no coach for a long time. However, the team then got Frank Reich for the position. Though the team made some good choices such as taking the two offensive linemen high in the draft, hiring of Reigh, they made some blunders as well. The defensive part of the ball was perhaps the biggest mistake of the team. The team should have replaced Rashaan Melvin in the draft, but have not done so.
Though Jacksonville Jaguars was the leader of NFL, it certainly had some flaws. The team signed Andrew Norwell and brought the best offensive linemen. The team stands out of the ordinary in running the ball. The addition of Norwell will be helpful in steamrolling the players of the opposite team. However, it cannot be concluded that the team will win as they have chosen Robison and Hurns and have brought Donte Moncrief as the replacement who failed to catch even 30 passes in the years of 2016 and 2017. Things may, however, take a different turn if he comes back in his form of 2015.
If the ultimate aim of Jon Robison is turning Titans into the winner of AFC South, there are chances of success. Apart from hiring Mike Vrabel as the coach, he even signed the two most integral players from England that helped the team in making run to Super Bowl LII.
The Titans will no longer be benching Malcolm Butler. After having a rank of 25th against the pass last season, the team requires some assistance in the secondary which will be provided by Butler.
