Titans tickets for the season have become a hot political topic for the two popular gubernatorial candidates in Tennessee. In March this year, Diane Black (congresswoman) made a major announcement that she was planning to give up her Titans season tickets due to players National Anthem protests. Blacks stated that she would be spending her Sundays fishing together with her family instead of going to watch the games.
On Tuesday, another gubernatorial candidate in Tennessee Craig Fitzugh stated that he has already purchased the Black's season tickets and wondered why Black does not support the freedom to free speech by Titans' players. Fitzugh indicated that he is the only gubernatorial candidate who have served the US military and although he would personally prefer to stand during the national anthem, he also supports those people who choose not to.
Fitzugh goes further to say that having served in the military does not make him more patriotic. He chooses to stand whenever the national anthem is played. He choose to make a statement by standing and also for those who choose not to stand they too make either statement. America constitution protects everyone and therefore its important to allows others with different opinion express themselves. That's why many people are against politicians bringing politics into the game. This is because most people want to spend their time away from political news and the anger that was brought by anthem protests.
Admirers of Titans are even wearing their children youth uniforms belonging to their beloved team. This will help to create a good atmosphere where fans can pay more attention to the games instead of focusing on politics. The issue of National Anthem protests was overtaken by the so-called political forces, according to Joe Lockhart (NFL spokesman) referring to politicians. More than 200 NFL players participated in anthem protests in one way or the other and many people have felt that the protests were not against the national anthem or the US flag.
Some people feel that players' views have been distorted and that's why they came under serious attacks, especially from politicians. NFL players are real men of character and many have gone ahead to become leaders in their own community. They have always supported military and they're patriotic too. Therefore, its important to know in depth what is their concern instead of looking at their issue politically. This issue can be resolved by involving all 32 teams and other stakeholders who include players, team owners, teams' coaching staff and NFL among others.
It was even more shocking to hear how Delanie Walker (Titans tight end) received serious threats against his life on his opinion on this issue of national anthem protests. However, he said that the threats have fueled his efforts to continue reaching out on opposing voices, different community groups and honoring those who serve in Armed Forces.
It's everyone's hope that the anthem issue will be resolved and all parties involved to reached an agreeable decision. We all want to see fans continue to sport the game they love so much.
